Thane police files case against MNS Corporator Sudha Chavan

Thane, Apr 5 (UNI) The Thane city police on Thursday registered a criminal case against the former MNS Corporator of the Thane Municipal Corporation Sudha Chavan, and 32 others including four civic officials the police said.

ACP Avinash Mohite who is probing into the infamous Suraj Parmar sucide case said that an offence was registered against Chavan and three other corporators under section 306 rw 34 of the IPC and also sections 7 and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. The charge sheet in the case has been already filed in the courts at Thane where the matter is being heard by the special court.

Meanwhile the Thane police were under section 173(8) of the CRPC act started further probe into the crime and in the probe the police have come across disproportionate assets as regards Sudha Chavan following which the offence was today registered with the Vartak Nagar police station of Wagle Estate Division the police officer
said.

The police said that during the probe the police came across an amount of Rs 10,96,51,502 which was earned by Sudha Chavan and his wife Sulekha Chavan, while he was a corporator in the corporation between April 1992 to October 2015 the officer said. The disproportionate asset is more by 40.99% more than his known sources of income.

Meanwhile the Thane police in a late evening press release stated that following this revealition they had registered a case with the Vartak Nagar police station against a total of 33 persons including Chavan and others who include his relatives and close associates and some civic officials. The police in their release just said others, but it is learnt reliably that some builders are also named in the FIR.
