Telangana receives 17 pc deficit rainfall during water year 2018-19

Hyderabad, Jan 3 (UNI) Telangana has received 17 per cent deficit rainfall during the water year 2018-19 (up to December 2018).

The state received actual rainfall of 699 mm against the normal rainfall of 845 mm during the same period, State Ground water Department Director Dr Pandit Madhnure said in a release here on Thursday.

The highest rainfall of 1291 mm was received in Adilabad district while the lowest 329 mm registered in Jogulamaba-Gadwal district and Hyderabad district received 34 percent deficit rainfall against the normal rainfall during the water year.

About 18 districts mainly located in central and southern part of state received a deficit rainfall (-21% in Mahabubnagar to -46% in Sangareddy) during this water year against the normal rainfall.

Average groundwater levels in the State during December 2018 is 11.15 meters below ground level(mbgl) and its varies from 5.43 mbgl (Khammam District ) to 20.84 mbgl (Medak District).

A net fall in Ground water level of -2.10 mbgl is observed during December 2018 as compared to last December (2017).

The fall is observed in 21 districts, and a maximum fall of -7.59 mbgl is observed in Sangareddy district with 46 per cent a deficit rainfall and minimum fall of -0.01 mbgl is observed in Karimnagar district with a 7 per cent of normal rainfall.

During December 2018 in comparison with previous year, a rise in water levels are observed in 10 districts i.e. 0.04 mbgl in Suryapet District to 1.57 mbgl, in Peddapally District with normal rainfall, the release added.
