Shanta Kumar demands Bharat Ratna for Dalai Lama

Dharamshala, Apr 15 (UNI) The All Party Parliamentary Forum on Tibet, headed by Lok Sabha member Shanta Kumar, on Monday demanded the highest civilian award be bestowed on Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, who had been peacefully struggling for the freedom of Tibet and restoration of the human rights within Tibet for the last six decades.
Mr Kumar told UNI that the Forum has requested Home Minister Raj Nath Singh, in a letter signed by sitting 200 MPs of different political parties, that the Dalai Lama, an apostle of peace, be bestowed with the highest civilian award 'Bharat Ratna,' for his consistent, peaceful and non-violent struggle, for the restoration of human rights in Tibet and for the freedom of Tibet for the last 60 years.
He said the world has accepted his peaceful attitude towards the Tibetan issue, for which he was awarded the 'Nobel prize'.
Dalai Lama, after his exile from Tibet, had been putting up at McLeodganj near here, the Tibetan seat of Tibetan Government in Exile, since 1959.
The BJP leader said that the All Party Parliamantry Forum unanimously has decided to raise a demand for Bharat Ratna for Dalai Lama. He said that this letter has been delivered in Home Minister’s office in New Delhi by Member Parliament Tibetan Government in Exile Acharya Yashi Phunchuk, who is also the Vice President of the Forum, on Sunday.
