SC has given a broad outlook in drafting personal data protection law: Ajay Prakash Sawhney

Bengaluru, Aug 22(UNI) With the growth of digital economy, enormous space, there arises a huge challenge on maintaining data privacy and data protection, Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Union Secretary, Deprtment of Electronics and Information Technology, opined here on Thursday.
Addressing newsmen on the sideline of the Internet of Things, India Congress-2019, being held here, Sawhney said that the proposed draft Personal Data Protection Bill, is still in its mid-stage and a wide range of consultations is being on from various stake-holders in the digital industry, before finalizing it.
Stating that the Supreme Court has provided a broad outline in formulating the law, he said that “It is being drafted in compliance with the Apex Court’s assertion that Data Privacy is from fundamental rights of a citizen and its query on how do you protect it”.
