Guwahati, May 29 (UNI) Altogether 28 organisations, led by All Assam Students Union (AASU), came together for a day-long hunger strike in Guwahati today against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bills, 2016, which seeks to give Indian citizenship rights to persecuted religious minorities of select neighbouring countries.
Ruling coalition partner of the BJP-led state government, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), also joined the protestors with AGP president and cabinet minister Atul Bora himself participating in the agitation programme.
Supporters of the 28 organisations as well as other groups and individuals joined the 11-hour hunger strike that began at 0600 hours at the Assam Engineering Institute field at Chandmari in the city.
