Pratapgarh, Sep 26 (UNI) Five FIRs have been registered against former Congress Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari, and his daughter Aradhana Mishra who is also UP Congress legislature party leader in connection with a clash between Congress and BJP supporters during Garib Kalyan Mela in Sangipur block.
According to police, one case each was registered against Pramod Tiwari and Aradhana Mishra on Saturday. Four more cases were registered on Sunday.
They have been booked under Section 307 of the IPC, which is attempt to murder charges, along with nine other critical sections of the IPC. The FIRs were registered at the Lalganj police station.
Meanwhile, the UP government has suspended police circle officer of Lalganj in Pratapgarh district Jagmohan Yadav for deriliction of duty.
In the suspension order issued by ASC (Home) Avnish Kumar Awasthi on Sunday, it is said the CO had not deployed adequate security personnel in the area. The recommendation for suspension was made by ADG (Prayagraj).
Since Saturday's incident, IG Prayagraj KP Singh has been camping in Pratapgarh.
Meanwhile, Pratapgarh BJP MP Sangam Lal Gupta will be meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Sunday in the presence of deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.
On Saturday, BJP leader Om Prakash Pandey and his security personnel had filed a complaint against the Congress leaders.
Earlier, on Gupta's complaint, the police had registered a case against 27 named and 50 unidentified people, including Pramod Tiwari and Aradhana Mishra, under several sections including 'attempt to murder'.
After the case was registered regarding the incident, the police raided the houses of six accused including the son and former head of a Congress-backed district panchayat member from Sangipur and detained their relatives.
On Saturday, a clash broke out between Congress and BJP workers during Garib Kalyan Mela in Sangipur block. In the clash, MP Sangam Lal Gupta was injured after he was beaten by Congress workers.
The MP filed a complaint addressing to the Superintendent of Police in Lalganj Kotwali wherein he alleged that the attack on him was pre-planned by senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari and when Sangipur SO tried to intervene the accused had started beating some BJP workers.
On instigation by Aradhana, some Congress party workers also attacked him with sticks, he said , adding the security personnel helped him run away from the spot and his life was saved.
The government has also called for a report on the incident that took place in police presence.
