Chennai, Feb 5 (UNI) Ms Pushpalatha, one of the most popular South Indian actress of
yesteryears, and a famous Bharatanatyam dancer, passed away in the city on Tuesday
evening after a prolonged illness.
Wife of veteran Tamil film actor AVM Rajan, with whom she had shared screen spaces in
several films, Pushpalatha was 87.
In a career spanning over three decades, she had acted along with top actors of her time,
including MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
One of the popular actors in South India, she had acted in more than 100 films in Tamil,
Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu, playing lead roles and later in supporting roles.
She entered the film world as a supporting actor started with 1958’s 'Senkkottai Singam'
ad her last film was 'Poovasam' in 1999.
She fell in love with actor and producer AVM Rajan during the shooting of 'Naanum Oru
Penn', and the two later got married. The couple had two daughters, including actress
Mahalakshmi.
The Tamil and South Indian Film Industry condoled her death.
