Police successfully uses AI to prevent untoward incident at Medaram Jatara

Hyderabad, Feb 9 (UNI) Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology used by the Telangana State Police for the first time, was successfully executed, in prevention of any untoward incidents at the Medaram Jatara here, where over 1.5 crore devotees took part in Sammakka-Saralakka Jatara, Asia’s biggest Tribal fair.
The four-day Sammakka-Saralakka Jatara, touted as Asia’s biggest Tribal fair at Medaram in Mulugu district, concluded on Saturday.
Devotees who visits the Gadde the holy place of Godess’ Sammakka and Saaralamma, duly submits their offerings namely Mokkulu, this point is the biggest challenge for the forces deployed at the event place.
As the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has passed the order to conduct this event of pride without any minor incident to report, Director General of Police M MahendarReddy, decided to use the advance technology during the Jaatara, at the optimal level.
With this, the Police Chief instructed the officials of IT wing and the other senior officers to look into the technology used during the Prayagraj Kumbha Mela in Uttar Pradesh.
Following this, the IT official have been involved in the study of AI Technology, for the last six months and same fundamental/basic technology has been applied for the Medaram Jatara also.
In Medaram, the majority 90 per cent devotees are from tribal folks.
Fourteen high definition cameras of Artificial Intelligence were installed, to estimate the crowd by monitoring the inflow of devotees covering, the route which leads to Gaddelu from JampannaWagu/Jampanna Canal, RTC bus stand, Orattam.
All these cameras were connected to the command and control centre set up made exclusively at the Police Camp, MedaramJatara from where, with the help of Artificial Intelligence technology, based on the inflow of the devotees, the crowd density was estimated and the instructions given then and there to the point officers deployed at the Jaatara.
Particularly, this Artificial Intelligence alarms the officers, as and then the devotees in a square metre area exceeds above 3.6 devotees.
With the help of this technology, the state police has succeeded in maintaining the order in peaceful environment, preventing the stampede like undesirable incidents.
Not just with crowd and queues monitored, the Traffic leading to Medaram Jatara was also effectively regulated with no single instance of congestion.
The officials has stated that this type of technologies will be kept in use at upcoming festivals of huge crowd prone like of Ganesh immersion, Bonalu in the state.
