Agartala, Jul 9 (UNI) As many as 7488 candidates of various political parties have filed nomination for the election to 6646 seats in three-tier panchayat to be held on July 27 next across the state, the state election officials stated here today.

The process of nomination filing started on July 1 and ended on July 8 last as per the schedule. While 6127 candidates of ruling BJP have submitted the nominations for 6111 seats of gram panchayat, 727 and 408 candidates belong to Congress and CPI (M) respectively has filed nomination for gram panchayats.

As a result, BJP won more than 83 per cent seats of the gram panchayat without any contest. However, BJP’s alliance partner IPFT has filed nomination in 48 seats and independent candidates to fight in 174 gram panchayat seats.

The BJP has filed candidates in all 419 seats of panchayat samity; CPI (M) fielded candidates in 93 seats, Congress in 74 seats, IPFT in 92 seats and independent candidates in 15 seats. Meanwhile, in a total 116 seats of Zilla Parishad BJP fielded candidates for all but CPI (M) has managed candidates for 93 seats, Congress in 81 seats, IPFT in 9 seats and independent in seven seats.

However, opposition CPI (M) and Congress alleged that they could not field candidates because of large scale violence of ruling BJP across the state. On the other, BJP denied the allegations and said that none of these parties were getting candidates, as people rejected them for their misrule in previous years.
