Wellington, Sep 16 (UNI) The driver of a school bus died and 40 people, including six children, were injured when a train collided with the bus near a nearby Palmerston North in New Zealand's North Island, the country's charitable healthcare organisation St John said on Wednesday.
The female bus driver who died in the crash, heading to the Feilding High School, was trying to cross the train tracks when her bus hit the back of the train at about 8 am local time at a railway-road intersection.
Police are still investigating the case.
The six injured children were taken to Palmerston North Hospital immediately. Their injuries were minor or moderate, according to the police.
Emergency services arrived at the scene. Many parents have picked up children from the scene.
