NIA conducts search at MLA’s residence in Arms missing case in Manipur

New Delhi, July 31(UNI) National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted search at the private house of MLA Yamthong Haokip, located at Mantripukhi in Imphal East, the agency said in its statement here.
According to NIA, the search ended on Tuesday.
This case is related to missing of 56 pistols and 58 magazines from the Police Director General (DG)’s pool.These weapons were located within the premises of 2nd Manipur Rifles Battalion and went missing between September, 2016 and early 2017.
During NIA investigation, nine persons have been arrested and three 9 mm pistol out of 56 missing pistols have been recovered from the members of various militant groups of Manipur.
The custodial interrogation of the said accused revealed the involvement of Yamthong Haokip, an MLA from Saikul assembly constituency of Manipur.
The probe agency during search recovered a 9mm pistol which was one among missing pistols from the DG’s pool, Rs 26.40 cash, gold ornaments besides other incriminating documents.
The search party of the agency also found huge cache of other arms including foreign pistols, DBBL and SBBL guns, rifle and live rounds of various recovered arms.
The license of some weapons were expired long back, the agency added in its statement.
