NDA Govt insensitive to violence against women: Cong

NDA Govt insensitive to violence against women: Cong

New Delhi, Dec 2 (UNI) Questioning the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Hyderabad rape case, the Congress on Monday charged the NDA Government of being insensitive to the rising incidents of crime against women in the country.

Addressing a press conference here, Congress MP from Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha MP S Kothiraman and AICC spokesperson Shama Mohammad said,'till date there has been no response from the government on the heinous incident. This clearly shows that the NDA Government is insensitive when it comes to incidents of violence against women in the country.'

Addressing reporters, Ms Amee Yajnik charged the Modi government of failing to spend the money under the Nirbhaya Fund to ensure the safety and security of women.

'Despite all the tough laws that were enacted in the wake of the Nirbhaya incident in 2013, incidents of violence against women continue unabated. This goes contrary to the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' policy of this government,' she said.

Questioning the silence of the PM and the Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani, Ms Yajnik said, 'why is the PM, who tweets on every other issue, silent on this heinous incident.'

Speaking on the issue, Mrs Shama Mohammad said the BJP was supporting rapists as was evident from the BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj meeting the Unnao rape accused Kuldip Sengar in jail.

'The PM should explain why he is silent on the rape incident. Also, why no money has been spent from the Nirbhaya Fund to ensure the security of women in the country,' she said.
