MP surging ahead in sports: Minister

Bhopal, Dec 8 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia averred on Tuesday that the state has emerged as a game-changer in the arena.
“Earlier, we had no significant presence in the sector but fresh direction has been provided under Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s leadership. Now, improved infrastructure, international-level facilities and coaches are available. As many as 19 sports academies are operational. When the first such institution for women commenced in 2006, ladies’ hockey was not rather popular but at this juncture 60 per cent of the national team’s players are from our state. We are training mentors and players in coordination with Loughborough University,” the senior politician was officially quoted as saying at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s two-day Virtual FICCI TURF-2020 Global Sports Summit.
