Member nations of WHO's South East Asia Region adopt declaration to strengthen health systems

Kathmandu, Sep 7 (UNI) The member nations of World Health Organisation’s South-East Asia Region adopted a “Ministerial Declaration” as a commitment to strengthen the health system resilience to achieve multifaceted aspects of universal healthcare, the agency announced on Tuesday.
The WHO said that the declaration will help achieve health security, universal health coverage and sustainable development goals for health in the South-East Asia Region.
“Strong health systems that are primary health care-oriented, and which leave no one behind, create populations that are healthier, more productive and financially secure. Resilient health systems are the bedrock of emergency preparedness and response, and ensure that when acute events occur, essential health services can be maintained,” said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, WHO South-East Asia, at a ministerial round table during the ongoing Seventy-Fourth Regional Committee meeting.
