Media bodies seek Press Council's intervention on govt move restricting journalists in Finance ministry

New Delhi, Jul 11 (UNI) Prominent media organisations such as the Press Club of India, Foreign Correspondents Club (FCC) and Indian Women's Press Corps (IWPC) have written to the Press Council of India, urging it to take suo moto action against Finance Ministry's decision restricting the entry of accredited mediapersons into the Ministry without prior appointment.
PCI president Anant Bagaitkar , Shishir Soni Vice prez Press Association , Vinita Pandey Gen Secretary IWPC and S Venkatraman President FCC met Justice CK Prasad Chairman Press Council here regarding the matter.
These organisations have apprised the Press Council of the restrictions imposed unilaterally by the Finance Ministry, calling the move as "undemocratic and against the freedom of Press.'
In a letter to the Chairman of the Press Council of India, Justice C K Prasad on Thursday, the media bodies said such practices will make the ministries out of bound for the media and the move will be against the freedom of media.
The media organisations have requested the Press Council to intervene and direct the Ministry to withdraw the unwarranted restrictions on media.
