Malaysia's king rejects proposal for emergency declaration

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 25(UNI) Malaysian King Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin on Sunday rejected Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's proposal to declare emergency so as to effectively deal with a rise in coronavirus cases.
Comptroller of the royal household Ahmad Fadil Shamsudin said in a statement,"Al-Sultan Abdullah is of the opinion that there is no need at this moment for His Majesty to declare an emergency in the country or any part of Malaysia."
The decision was taken after the king held a meeting with Malay hereditary rulers earlier today to discuss the proposal made by Muhyiddin to the monarch after his Cabinet had endorsed the move.
