Major blow to TMC in Malda as over 500 supporters join BJP

Malda, Apr 02(UNI) Over 500 Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) workers today joined BJP in the presence of its Malda North Lok Sabha candidate Khagen Murmu in a function at Ghot Para in Old Malda block.
This is being viewed as a big organisational set back for Trinamool Congress when the Lok Sabha elections are knocking at the door.
The new joinees said they shifted their loyalties to BJP to strengthen Narendra Modi and ensure a landslide victory for Khagen Murmu.
It is to be mentioned here that Malda was one of the last remaining bastions of Congress until its sitting MP from Malda North and niece of legendary A B A Ghani Khan Choudhury, Mausam Benazir Noor joined TMC with a large number of her supporters, last January.
Congress has now pitted her cousin Isha Khan from the seat, and a close battle between the two is expected. However, support for Noor is palpable irrespective of the party she has chosen.
BJP, which is targeting at least 22 seats in West Bengal, is making repeated blows on the organisational strength of its opponents in the constituency where it is desperately trying to spread its roots.
