LS Poll: DCM Parameshwara disappointed over ignoring sitting Cong MP in Tumakuru

LS Poll: DCM Parameshwara disappointed over ignoring sitting Cong MP in Tumakuru

Bengaluru, Mar 15 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Friday expressed disappointment over Congress party leaving Tumakuru Lok Sabha seat to coalition partner JD(S), though the party had won the seat in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

He urged the senior Congress leaders and AICC Central Screening Committee members to reconsider their decision and consider renominating sitting MP Mudduhanume Gowda. Tumakuru goes for poll in the first of two two phase election in Karnataka on April 18.

Speaking to newsmen after meeting Congress leader in the Lok Sabha M Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence and appealing to him to bring pressure on the Central leaders to reconsider over the issue, Dr Parameshwara said, "the State Screening Committee which consists of 10 members, including Congress and JDS, had passed a resolution to consider giving ticket to all the sitting Congress MPs. As per this decision the name of sitting MP Mudduhanume Gowda's should have been considered.

‘’In the entire country tickets were given to about 40 sitting MPs by the Congress party. But only his name (Mudduhanume Gowda) was left. I dont know what was the pressure behind going against the State Screening Committee resolution," he said.

However, Dr Parameshwara said that "if Mr Devegowda himself is contesting from Tumakuru it is welcome and as per coalition committee agreement we will also work for his victory in the election. But if they (JDS) are fielding any other candidate, it is against the resolution and I appeal all the senior leaders at the AICC to have a relook over the decision of leaving the seat to JD(S)."

Replying to a question, the DCM said "I dont want to blame anybody, but I appeal to the senior leaders to reconsider as in principle it was decided to consider giving ticket to all the Congress MPs. I have conveyed it to Mr Kharge also."

He said today morning he had met Chef Minister H D Kumaraswamy and asked him to give Tumakuru constituency to Congress. He would also meet JD(S) National President and former Prime Minister H D Devegowda and appeal to him also as well he added.

Mr Mudduhanume Gowda, who also met Mr Kharge and appealed to him to consider his name, told newsmen, that he was confident of getting the party ticket. "I am confident of getting ticket. I don't want to reply to hypothetical questions about what will happen if not considered. I have confidence in the High Command and senior leaders," he added.
