New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 1900 hrs on Monday after the Opposition created a ruckus over the issue of the fuel price hike in the country.
Soon after the House reassembled at 1700 hrs, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla greeted the women and read out a message on the occasion of International Women's Day.
He also informed that from Tuesday, Lok Sabha proceedings will start from 1100 hrs instead of 1600 hrs.
The Lok Sabha Speaker, while rejecting the adjournment motions on the issue of inflation in the prices of petroleum products said these issues can be discussed during the consideration of the Finance Bill.
After this, the Papers were laid on the table of the House. Opposition Members raised slogans against the rising fuel prices and entered the Well of the House.
Meanwhile, Mr Birla said on the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, the women members of the House want to discuss the achievements and empowerment of women.
Congress floor leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary demanded that the Government should bring the Women's Reservation Bill and pass a resolution on it today.
The Congress leader also raised the issue of petrol and diesel price rise.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi urged the Members to take part in the discussion on women empowerment. He said the Government is ready to convert the Calling Attention Motion on Women
Empowerment into discussion under Rule 193.
Shiromani Akal Dal member Harsimrat Kaur Badal also raised the issue of the fuel price hike.
Uproar by the Opposition members over the issue of fuel price rise continued in the House, forcing Mr Birla to adjourn the House till 1900 hrs.
