Islamabad, Aug 19 (UNI) Permanent representative to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi has described former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan as a great leader and statesman.
Condoling the death of the Ghanian diplomat and former UN Secretary General, Ms Lodhi said Pakistan is saddened by Annan's passing away and his contributions to the UN and international peace will always be remembered, a report in Radio Pakistan said.
Annan, the Ghanaian diplomat, who served as seventh secretary general of United Nations between 1997 and 2006, died following a short illness at the age of his family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announced on Saturday.
He was the first black African to take up the role of the world's top diplomat, serving two terms from 1997 to 2006.
