New Delhi, Jan 25(UNI) “The best thing that we can do is to disengage with the Taliban and think about democratic alternatives, west is not thinking creatively, perhaps of engaging with communities outside the country, putting together fragments of the Afghan national Army who together with National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) could lead a democratic opposition in the country” said David Loyn, former BBC correspondent and author of 'The Long War: The Inside Story of America and Afghanistan since 9/11'.
Loyn was speaking at a panel discussion titled ‘Whither Afghanistan?’ at the India International Center(IIC) recently.
David didn’t think that there is another possible chance of a western military intervention in Afghanistan but felt that the resistance forces should be supported “it was close to zero before the Ukraine war (chances of intervention in Afghanistan), after the war in Europe, Afghanistan is now so far off the western radar. But the west should along with countries like India, countries who are serious about providing stability in Afghanistan should engage former Afghan national army people, it would also be a cost effective option they don’t need that much money in order to fight the Taliban, the country is awash with weapons every boy wants to fight.”
