INRC 2019: Jodhpur Rally cancelled after three killed in accident

Jodhpur, Sep 21 (UNI) The third round of the 2019 Indian National Rally Championship was cancelled on Saturday, after the car of a participant hit a motorcycle during the FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship, killing three people on-the-spot.
According to eye-witnesses, the accident, which took place 150 m away from the finishing line of the rally, also left ace rallyist Gaurav Gill, seriously injured.
The deceased were not wearing helmets and were on the track, even though a warning had been issued to them.
Gill was taken to hospital, after suffering major injuries and respiratory problems.
He was currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Jodhpur and was yet to be discharged. Gill's co-driver Musa Sherif also suffered minor injuries in the incident.
The Jodhpur rally was supposed to run on gravel, covering about 300 km over two days with 125 km of special stages. A total of 53 teams were to feature in the Maxperience Rally, which has now been cancelled, because of the accident.
"Everything happened within less than a minute. It was a literally a blind spot. He (Gaurav) tried to stop the car, however, as there was a sharp turn, the situation became unavoidable. Despite being warned, the biker forcefully entered the track," the organisors said.
"We feel very sad for the deceased and express our condolences to their family members. We had all the safety measures at place and also had the necessary permission from the authorities," they added.
President of FMSCI J Prithiviraj, who is also the COC of the event, extended deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and stated that the organising team was currently working with the authorities and the locals, to provide the necessary support.
Mr Prithiviraj also said that all the necessary permissions were given to the event organisors. Additionally, the police force was also notified to provide the required support for the event. The locals were also informed and consent from the locals was also provided to the organisors, to hold the event.
