ICC thanks BCCI for hosting biggest Cricket World Cup ever

Chennai, Nov 20 (UNI) The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the successful hosting of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which has been the biggest Cricket World Cup ever.
Australia beat India to claim their sixth Men’s Cricket World Cup in front of a packed crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s biggest cricket stadium.
The World Cup has been the most attended ICC event ever and records have also been broken across broadcast and digital.
The 2023 edition has showcased the very best of cricket in one day, combining the unique Indian passion for cricket with the national pride of all competing nations creating an unrivalled global sporting occasion which captured the imagination of fans from across the world, a statement from ICC said.
The event was held from October 5 to November 19 across ten host cities Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, including the warm-up venues of Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram.
ICC Chair Greg Barclay said: “We are delighted with the success of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which has been the biggest Cricket World Cup ever. The event has been the most attended ICC World Cup ever with records shattered across broadcast and digital showcasing the support and interest for the one-day game.
“I’d like to thank the Board of Control for Cricket in India for delivering a World Cup that was a true celebration of the best all-round cricket experience that brought fans closer to the action than ever before. Thank you must also go to the Match Officials and to the ICC staff for delivering a world class global cricket event.
“Thank you to all ten teams for making this such a wonderful World Cup and to India and Australia for such a compelling final to conclude the event. Congratulations to Australia for winning a remarkable sixth ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.”
