Goa to seek funds from Centre for flood relief

Panaji, Aug 8 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday told state assembly that he will write to the Centre seeking funds for providing relief to flood affected people and their rehabilitation.
Speaking during Zero Hour mention period, the Chief Minister said he had issued instruction to district collectors of the state to conduct survey of the damages caused by the flood and rains.
He said evaluation of total loss would take at least three to four days and after that he would write a letter to the Centre.
He mentioned that a car and its occupant who was resident of Caranzalem in the city was washed out and there was no information of his whereabout.
The Chief Minister said he had spoken to Karnataka Police and urged people to exercise precaution.
He also requested people, including industrialists, to donate funds to Chief Minister's Relief Fund so that relief could be provided to needy people.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition and Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat urged the Chief Minister to seek funds from the Centre in view of flood situation prevailing in some parts of the state and damages caused to properties due the heavy rains during the last few days.
