Global primate genome study reveals fascinating insights into evolution

Hyderabad, June 2 (UNI) A groundbreaking global study conducted by scientists worldwide has unveiled significant findings about the evolution of primates.
This comprehensive investigation involved genome sequencing of over 800 individuals from 233 primate species, representing nearly half of all primate species on Earth. By combining these genetic analyses with the study of fossil remains, researchers have quadrupled the number of primate genomes available for study to date.
The study also encompassed 83 samples from 19 major primate species in India, which were examined by scientists at the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB). This research has provided fresh insights into the genetic diversity and evolution of primates, which holds immense value in understanding and conserving the biodiversity of species closely related to humans.
