Fruit growers & dealers protest at Sopore fruit mandi over halting of trucks on NH-44

Srinagar, July 2 (UNI) Fruit growers and dealers on Saturday staged a protest at Fruit Mandi Sopore in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir over alleged halting of fruit-laden trucks along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway due to the security measures taken in wake of Amarnath Yatra.

The growers said the early varieties of fruit- plum, apricot, peach, pear and Hazratbali apple- have limited shelf life and should reach mandis outside J&K as soon as possible and the halting of the trucks along the highway was incurring heavy financial losses. Presently harvesting of early varieties is in full swing.
