FPO is good for farmers but difficulties followed in Tripura: Members

Udaipur, Jun 21 (UNI) Bagma Producers Organisation CEO S Majumdar today said the Farmers Producers Organisation (FPO) is very important for the development of farmers but there are problem to constitute FPO because there are many problem of government rules and many problem had to be faced in Tripura.
Talking to UNI here, Mr Majumder said the FPO is very important for the development of farmers but there are problem to constitute FPO also there are many problem of government rules and many problem had to be faced because the previous state government of Tripura was not friendly.
An organization, named Gram Bikas Farmers’ Club (GBFC) which located at Dakshin Bagma area under Tepaniya RD Block, Udaipur, Gomati District, Tripura. The club established under the proper guidance of NABARD and the club was approved by NABARD in the year 2005 and the major activities of the club members are promotion of livelihood activities through dairy, fishery, apiary, mushroom cultivation, paddy cultivation through proper System of Rice Intensification (SRI) methodology, identification of potential customers for TGB towards deposit mobilization, Issue of KCC, JLG formation, development of market opportunities for member.
The members of FC had formed a Farmer Producers Organization (FPO) in the year 2016 in view of expansion of their agricultural activities. The FPO named Bagma Producers Organisation are involved with the production of milk and set-up the first Bulk Milk Collection and Cooling Centre (BMC) of 1,000 litre capacity at Bagma in association with Agartala Dairy Foode Pvt. Ltd. towards additional support/extension services to the dairy farmers.
The ownership of the FPO is with its members and an organization of the producers, by the producers and for the producers.
The high level official source of NABARD said “In Tripura, the concept of FPO is very relevant for the development of farmers but it is true that the members of FPO are facing with different problems because there are many problems to get the different approval in order to constitute FPO from the government. So it is very vital to have certain relaxation on the legal provision”.
In course of conversation with the members of the FPO told to UNI that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the previous day interacted with farmers across the country, through video bridge. During the interaction, Prime Minister expressed delight in the collective strength displayed by the farmers through the formation of Farmer Producer Group and FPO (Farmer Producer Organisation), enabling them to get agricultural inputs at low cost and marketing their produce effectively.
In the past four years, 517 FPO have been created and income tax exemption has been granted to Farmer Producer Companies, to encourage cooperatives amongst farmers.
Although the PM of India told that the collective strength of farmers through the formation of FPO, enabling them to get agricultural inputs at low cost and marketing their produce effectively but there is not any proper initiative by the government for the development of FPO concept in Tripura, stated FPO members.
