New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said on Monday that timely processing of perishable items like fruit and vegetables can reduce wastage by up to 90 per cent, while also giving farmers a fair price of their produce.
Inaugurating the second edition of global Food and Beverage Trade Fair, Indus Food, Ms Badal said India is one of the largest producers of food items, including fruits, vegetables, meat and sea food.
'However, we are able to use just 10 per cent of our produce in the food processing industry, leading to wastage of around 90 per cent,' Ms Badal noted.
