First batch of Central Forces arrive for West Bengal's 7-phase polling beginning April 11

First batch of Central Forces arrive for West Bengal's 7-phase polling beginning April 11

Kolkata, Mar 15 (UNI) The first batch of central forces arrived here on Friday for West Bengal's seven-phase general elections commencing April 11, 2019.

The Election Commission from New Delhi was holding meeting with senior police officials of Lalbazar though video conferencing regarding deployment.

The women cell of TMC began sit-in -protest condemning BJP's demand to declare the entire state as super sensitive.

Two companies of central para-military forces arrived in Birbhum and Medinipur and eight more such companies are expected here by this evening, official sources said today.

West Bengal will witness 7-phase of polling for all 42 seats spreading across the state with first phase polling day on April, 11 for two seats, April 18 for three seats, April 23 and April 29 for five and eight seats respectively.

On May 6 poll will be held for 7 seats, May 22 for eight seats and last and final day poll will be held on May 19 for nine seats.

The results are expected on May 23.

Sources said the central forces are expected to start area domination between the border of Jharkhand and West Bengal's Birbhum district starting this afternoon, and will begin route marching in different districts from Saturday onwards.

The EC initially directed deployment of forces - 2 companies in S 24 Parganas, one company each to N 24 Parganas, Malda, Murshidabad, Bankura, North Dinajpur - to instill confidence among the

electorate.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission officials began interacting with the senior police officials at Lalbazar through video conferencing regarding overall law and order situation and enquired about

sensitiveness of polling booths.

The Commission earlier this week has sought lists of sensitive booths across the state so that observers could be deployed in those areas in advance.
