Em Prasad Sharma and GT Dhungel decide to joining ruling SKM

Gangtok, Aug 14 (UNI) Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party now boasts of 18 MLAs, as two opposition MLAs EM Prasad Sharma, Namcheybong and GT Dhunget MLA Tadung offered to join the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party here today.

Sikkim Democratic Front party is left with only its president cum MLA Pawan Kumar Chamling now. The duo had declared themselves SDF-B and were given separate seats in assembly, away from SDF on demand, early this month during Legislative Assembly session.

Jacob Khaling, political secretary to Chief Minister said " We will not do anything forcibly but will function only as per the law. If they (SDF MLAs) go with 2/3 majority, we have nothing to say. Except 2 to 3 of them are seeped in corruption. The political development which taking place would not create problem. BJP is not running Government here so we do not have anything to say. We have to say something only against those who were in Government, here earlier."

When questioned on obstacles in allowing CBI in State, Khaling said to remove the obstacle recently the Lokayukta Act, which stood in the way has been amended.

MLA GT Dhungel said, " We are trying to go today to SKM. To deal with regional sentiments and cater for issues here effectively I did not support joining National party. Regional parties understand the local issues better."

MLA Em Prasad Sharma said, " We had thought of remaining in the party. We continued to oppose joining National party. Till an individual represents himself in the Legislature raising voice nothing can be accomplished. Now only 3 MLAs were left and two of us decided to work in keeping with regional sentiments and also to join regional party running Government. Our views were not cared for, while in SDF party so we felt no need to remain there any longer."

The two MLAs have said they will be making copies of resignation public only once the 10 MLAs who have joined BJP yesterday, return from Delhi.

With this, Sikkim Democratic Front party is left with hardly any representation in the State Assembly. All those who have joined BJP will now turn the party strong as opposition in assembly. This will end the mass SDF boycott of State Assembly declared by P K Chamling earlier who is likely to continue it.
