DRI seizes 832 gms of gold in paste form at RGIA

Hyderabad, Oct 20 (UNI) Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad have seized 832 grams of Gold in paste form, worth about Rs 27.87 lakh from an air passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, (RGIA) at Shamshabad near here.
Based on specific intelligence, officers of the DRI, Hyderabad, intercepted a passenger at the arrival hall of RGIA after he arrived by an Air India Flight from Mumbai on Saturday, a DRI statement said here on Sunday.
The inquiries have revealed that the said passenger was entrusted with the job of carrying gold in paste form which was given to him by one of his friend in Mumbai.
On examination, it was found that the gold in paste form was wrapped with black colour adhesive tape in to 3 elliptical shaped balls and concealed them in his person (rectum concealment).

The gold in paste form weighing 832 grams, which on further examination turned out to be having gold content of 724 grams, the statement said.
The passenger admitted that the gold was smuggled into the country and they did not have any documents to prove the licit purchase/import of the said gold.
The smuggled gold has been seized under Customs Act, 1962 and the person is arrested.
Further investigation is in progress, the statement added.
