New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) Delhi Police on Wednesday said that it has busted an international drug syndicate, seizing more than 560 kilograms of cocaine estimated to be valued at over Rs 2,000 crore.
Addressing the media, Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said, “Delhi Police Special Cell team nabbed four people from South Delhi’s Mehrauli and confiscated the consignment weighing over 562 kilograms.”
The police also seized 40 kilograms of marijuana, valued at Rs 50 lakh per kilogram from their possesion, he said.
"This haul is equivalent to approximately 5 million doses, potentially saving countless lives from drug addiction,” Kushwaha added.
Based on the information received, the Special Cell team had been working for over two months, which led to this bust just before the festive season.
The police said that consignment was intercepted from a suspected drug cartel operating in the capital. The cocaine, sourced from abroad, was meant for distribution in Delhi and other parts of the country.
"This massive seizure is a significant blow to the narcotics trade and a testament to our relentless efforts to curb drug trafficking," the ACP said.
