Clashes erupt after encounter ensues in Kulgam

Srinagar, Jan 12 (UNI) Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators, who were attempting to enter the area where an encounter ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Kulgam on Saturday evening.
Official sources said immediately after security forces launched CASO, people- mostly youths, hit the streets of Kulgam and raised slogans.
However, when the demonstrators tried to move towards the area where the operation was going on, security forces resorted to lathicharge, which had no impact.
Later, security forces burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators, who were pelting stones.
Clashes were going on when the reports last came in, they said, adding operation also continued against the holed up militants.
