CITU holds 36-hr Mahapadav against lockout of Diamond restaurant

Shimla, June 19 (UNI) The Central Industrial Trade Union organised a 36-hour Mahapadav outside the Deputy Commissioner, to protest against lockout of Diamond restaurant in Shimla without paying three-month wages to the workers and seeking permission from the Labour department.
The Mahapadav begans on Monday morning and it would last till Tuesday night, where number of workers were protesting, led by CITU District Secretary Vajinder Mehra.
Meanwhile, the Labour department started persecution of the alleged hospitality units for lookout of the restaurant and non-payment of salaries to the workers, who are fired without giving them ultimatum.
Mr Mehra said the industrial dispute began about 60 days back, when three workers were fired from the restaurant without issuing notices to them. It was followed by the lodging of FIR on the victimised workers after levelling frivolous charges of theft on them.
Recently, the restaurant locked out without issuing notices to about 75 workers and non-payment of their wages.
He said that firm is also violated the EPF rules as it did not deposits the funds being the employers despite making deduction in their wages on the name of EPF.
The people, labour of contractors, private hotels and restaurants and companies and sweepers and sanitations workers are being facing the discriminatory action from government and its functionary as the recent water shortage in Shimla, crushing down the strike of Sehab Society and now the diamond companies workers are glaring example of such action, Mr Mehra said.

State machinery remained blind to the monopoly violation of labour norms and exploitations of worker by the Private companies, Contractors and businessman which show that officers should be brought to dock for providing justice to the working class.
Labour Commissioner Himanshu Shaikhar Choudhary told UNI that persecution proceeding has been taken against the responsible hospitlity unit after issuing notices to the owner.
He said that department is aware that owner is guilty lock out of the unit without paying three month dues and wages of the victim workers. He informed that since owner did not took consent of labour department before lock out, issued showcase notice.
He said that department is aware of workers protest as Diamond Restaurant owner rendered more than 75 workers jobless without giving them their 78 days wages and compensations.
The role of labour department, district administration and police remained unsympathetic toward victimised worker who are lodging protest for last 45 days. Police used force against the workers after lodging lathicharge when they tried to corden SP Shimla recently , Mr Mehra alleged.
Mr Mehra said that Jai Ram Government could not ensure justice to the workers who faced victimisation from the restaurant owners despite giving memorandum to the Labour commissioner and Chief Secretary to brought this issue to their knowledge.
Now the restaurant workers were fired out , facing lock out and restriction of protest from the administration which is against the law. People have rights to lodged protest peacefully to pres their demands however the workers were also discriminated by the department, district administration and police which show that government has least regard for the working class even at the state capital town, he added.
