Chopper shower petals as Shimla marks Republic Day

Shimla, Jan 26 (UNI) A helicopter showered petals over the Shimla ridge where the state's Republic Day function was held on Monday, turning the ceremony, where Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla unfurled the national tricolour in the presence of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, into it into a "people's event."
The Governor inspected the parade from an open jeep and took the salute. Colourful tableaux by various departments and the Army were presented, reflecting the state’s achievements and key government schemes. Cultural programmes showcasing Himachal Pradesh’s rich heritage and development initiatives added vibrancy to the event.
The parade was led by Parade Commander Lieutenant Shashwat Tiwari of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. Contingents from the Indian Army, ITBP, Sashastra Seema Bal, Himachal Police, Mahila Police, Traffic Police, Home Guards, ex-servicemen, NCC, NSS, Bharat Scouts and Guides, and Disaster Management participated. Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur was also present on the occasion.

Class 10 student found dead in abandoned Manesar building, family alleges foul play

Chandigarh, Feb 11 (UNI) A 17-year-old student was found dead under mysterious circumstances in an under-construction building in the Manesar area of Gurugram district. The deceased, identified as Akash Tiwari, was a Class 10 student at JD Public School. His body was discovered on the first-floor balcony of a dilapidated structure on Wednesday, prompting his family to raise allegations of murder before the local police.
