Chandigarh to host badminton tourney from Sep 18

Chandigarh, Sep 15 (UNI) The Chandigarh Badminton Association (CBA) will host the Yonex Sunrise All-India Junior Badminton Ranking Tournament for the first time in the city.
The championships will be played at the nine Hova-layer courts of the sector 43 sports complex and three badminton courts of the sector 42 sports complex from September 18 to 23.
The qualifying matches will be played between September 18 and 19, at both the venues, while the main draw matches, starting from September 20, will be played only at sector 43 sports complex.
CBA secretary and organising secretary Surinder Mahajan said, " Over 1,040 players have signed in for the qualifying event and the championships will be played under the supervision of BAI grade- I and II referees.
While giving details of the tournament, he said, ''To make this championships a huge success, both CBA and the BAI are making best of their effort.The qualifying matches will start at 0800 hrs and will be played till late evening, while the main draw matches will be played as per schedule.''

Omar Rashid, Secretary BAI events, said, ''The matches will be played under BAI rules, and there are possibilities that the national selectors may come to watch the matches to scout the future talent.''
Col Raj Parmar, joint organising secretary of the tournament, informed that the BAI will also select players for the World Championships.
“The BAI scouts will also scrutinise players for the World Championships. The players will have an excellent opportunity to showcase their talent, here,” said Col Raj Parmar.
