Centre refers Odisha-Chhattisgarh Mahanadi dispute to newly formed tribunal

New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) The Centre on Tuesday referred the dispute over sharing of Mahanadi waters between Odisha and Chhattisgarh to the newly formed three-member Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal.
Union Secretary of Water Resources Rivers Development and Ganga Rejuvenation UP Singh handed over the reference to the Chairman of the Tribunal AM Khanwilkar, who is a sitting Supreme Court judge.
The matter has been referred to the tribunal under Section 5 (1) of the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act (ISRWD), 1956.
