Calvin keeps winning spree; Bhuvana stuns top seed Nithyaraj

Chandigarh, Jun 13 (UNI) Maintaining his winning spree, unseeded CLTA training Calvin Golmei today upset 5th seed Yuvraj Singh in a three- setter men's singles quarter-final marathon match in National Ranking Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 Government Tennis Stadium here.
The ding-dong match lasted four and half hours before Calvin won by 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4.
Yuvraj Singh was leading 5-2 in first set. Calvin came back strongly and make it 6-6. Finally Yuvraj won the 1st set 7-6(5) in tie break. In the second set Calvin played consistently with heavy top spin ground stroke from the baseline. Calvin sometime used his variations of backhand slice to break the opponent rhythm to win the set 6-3 to make it 1-1.
In the final set Calvin maintained his consistency of ground stroke with heavy topspin and used as a variations chip and charge, finally Calvin closed the set and match 6-4.
Top seed Ishaque Eqbal defeated Arghya Das in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Another unseeded player Vipul Mehta of Delhi upset 4th seed Jaydeep Singh Chudasam 6-4, 6-4. Calvin Golmei will against Sunil Malik in men’s singles semi-finals tomorrow.
In the women’s singles quarterfinals matches Bhuvana Kalva upset top seed Nithyaraj Baburaj in a 3 setter closed contestant match 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Fourth seed Dakshata Patel defeated qualifier Sarah Dev in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Saumya Vig and Sharannya Vijay also moved into semi-finals.
In the men’s doubles quarterfinals matches Yash Yadav and Ishaque Eqbal defeated Calvin Golmei and Shashikant Rajput 6-2, 6-2. Sunil Malik and Ajay Malik moved into semi-finals.
In the women’s doubles quarterfinals matches top seed Yubrani Banerjee and Shweta Chandra Rana defeated Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa and Pooja Ingale 6-4, 6-2.
