Bloomberg joins race for White House

(Rptng, removing garbles)
London, Nov 9 (UNI) Billionaire businessman and former New York mayor Michael R Bloomberg has filed paperwork ahead of a deadline for the Democratic primary election in Alabama, BBC reported on Saturday.
The move is a necessary step to join the race to be the party's candidate to take on President Donald Trump in next year's election.
Mr Bloomberg, 77, has not formally confirmed his candidacy.
However, his spokesman Jason Schechter told US media that an announcement "could come as early as next week".
Former Vice-President Joe Biden, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders are the frontrunners.
Some recent opinion polls have suggested that Ms Warren and Mr Sanders - who are regarded to the left of Mr Biden politically - might lose against Republican Mr Trump if either won the party's nomination.
So far, three Republicans have said they will challenge Mr Trump in the party's primary contest.
Mr Bloomberg was a Wall Street banker before going on to create the financial publishing empire that bears his name.
His net worth is $52bn (£40bn), according to Forbes.
