BJP veteran Shanta Kumar retires from politics

Palampur, May 15 (UNI) Prominent BJP leader and Parliamentarian Shanta Kumar who served as Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh twice retired from electoral politics on Wednesday, after 66 years of his political life.



Shanta Kumar, born on September 12, 1934 was four times elected as Lok Sabha MP and remained as Rajya Sabha member once and served as Union Minister, today retired from active politics.

He remained as the Chief Minister in 1977-80 and in 1990-92 and was elected as a Lok Sabha MP four

times and once Shanta Kumar was a Rajya Sabha member.

He remained as Union minister of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution from 2001- 2002, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, July 2002- April 2003 and Minister of Rural Development, GoI 2008.



Today in a public meeting in presence of Smriti Irani, the veteran leader announced his retirement from active politics and thanked people for their support and helping him in strengthening BJP.

Shanta Kumar said that he started his political life from Palampur 66 years back, and today he decided to retired from politics from Palampur.
