Bangladeshi students in US stage demo

Bangladeshi students in US stage demo

Dhaka, Aug 10 (UNI) Bangladeshi students in three US Universities - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette University and Cardinal Stritch University - have staged demonstrations, protesting against the attacks on agitating students in Bangladesh for safe roads.

The Bangladeshi students, along with their family members, formed human chain on the campuses of their respective varsities around 10:00am (US time) on Wednesday, said a statement issued by the Bangladesh Students Association in the United States.

According to the statement, the students, most of whom are PhD pupils over there, demanded the Bangladesh government to bring the attackers on students to justice immediately.

The students, who carried placards inscribed with the slogan ‘We Want Justice’, also urged the Bangladesh authorities to ensure democratic rights for all, irrespective of political affiliations.

'The students took to the streets with a logical demand, but the way the terrorist attacks were launched on them is a contradiction to democratic values. We want justice,' said Fayika Farhat, a PhD student at Marquette University.

PhD student in Chemistry at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Afsana Mahim said everyone in a democratic country should be allowed to express their opinions and stage rightful demonstrations.
