New Delhi/Kolkata, Dec 7 (UNI) BJP president Amit Shah on Friday cancelled his visit to Cooch Behar district of West Bengal where he was scheduled to commence the party's 41-day rath yatra.
According to sources, Mr Shah will hold a press conference in the National Capital around 1300 hrs in this regard.
The BJP West Bengal unit, however, maintained that even though Mr Shah was not coming to Cooch Behar, the party would hold its proposed rally there.
The BJP had suffered a major jolt on Thursday after Calcutta High Court denied permission to the rath yatra and directed the party to put the yatra on hold till the next hearing of the case on January 9, 2019.
The High Court chose to go with the state observing that the yatra might disrupt communal harmony in the North Bengal district bordering Assam.
Soon after the court order, the West Bengal BJP had decided to move the division bench against the order. .
A division bench led by justice Biswanath Somadder is likely to hear BJP's appeal petition around 1230 hrs.
