Agricultural land use area shrinks in CDP

Puducherry, Nov 8 (UNI) The agricultural land use area has shrunk from 135.85 square kilometers to 129.67 square kilometers in the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP)-2036 notified by the Town and Country Planning Department here on August 30.

This CDP has been made for entire Puducherry area to an extent of 294.23 square kilometers under 81 revenue villages after a gap of 36 years. The first CDP prepared in 1983 was prepared under the aegis of the Puducherry Town and Country Planning Act, 1969 for an area of 41.9 square kilometers.
In the land use pattern, the residential use area has gone up from 32.12 sq km to 51.37 kms. The unauthorized layout of around 33 sq kms have been brought under residential use. Besides 1.49 sq kms area is identified as Mixed Residential Zone. The CDP has identified 2.37 sq kms as Commercial area, while 3.23 sq kms as Mixed commercial zone. An industrial area of 15.11 sq kms and Mixed Industrial zone of 1.42 sq kms have been proposed. For recreation and tourism zone has increased to 5.52 sq kms from 0.5 sq kms, public and semi public 19.70 sq kms have been earmarked. For Transportation and communication, 24.77 sq kms have been proposed as compared to 22 sq kms. Remaining 39.56 sqkms is marked as protective and under developed zone.
