5th Rotary Rain Run on July 28

Panaji, Jul 11 (UNI) The Rotary Charitable Trust of Porvorim in association with Mukta Opticians, Goa, will be organising the 5th edition of the ‘Rotary Rain Run 2019’ on July 28, 2019, at the SAG Stadium in Bambolim, near the city.
Kranti Salvi, ace marathon runner and Guinness world record holder, will be the brand ambassador for the run this year.
Address a press conference in the city on Thursday, Nikhil Shah, the newly elected President of the Rotary Club of Porvorim, said, “The event this year is a charity event in aid of women health and education. Our club supported five female cancer patients towards treatment expenses and four needy schools towards infrastructure repairs with the funds collected last year.”
The run this year is expected to attract 3,000 runners from Goa and across India and is a district event of the Rotary District 3170 comprising Goa and parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka states.
Avinash Parmar, co-chairman of the event, said the top three runners in the men’s, women’s, armed forces and veterans (men and women above age 50) half marathon race would get prize money of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
Guirish Sawant, co-chairman of the event, said half marathon race would start at the SAG Stadium and go via the Goa University Road up to Miramar and back to the stadium. Both the 21 km and ten km races would be timed and start at 0530 hrs and 0545 hrs respectively, while the five km ‘fun-run’ will start at 0815 hrs.
There will be five water stations en-route and a fully equipped medical station at the stadium.
