'Rasta roko' agitation in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nov 20 (UNI) The activists of Marathwada Pani Hakka Parishad on Monday staged a 'rasta roko' agitation in front of Godavari Irrigation Development Corporation's (GIDC) office here to protest against the state government for not releasing the rightful quota of 8.6 TMC water into Jayakwadi dam from upstream dams in north and western Maharashtra due to alleged pressure from the local political leaders.
Leaders of all political parties, including people's representatives, along with Parishad's protesters blocked the Jalna road for about 3-4 hours, bringing vehicular traffic on both sides of the road to a standstill.
Despite the order issued in October to release 8.6 TMC of water from a dam in western Maharashtra into Jayakwadi, it is not followed in spirit causing anger among the people's representatives, farmers, entrepreneurs and common citizens of Marathwada.
