New Delhi, Dec 2 (UNI) Underlining the importance of capacity building of police to deal with emergency situations, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said that there should be zero tolerance against terrorism.
In his inaugural address at the 55th All India DGP/IGP conference virtually, Mr Shah directed that security agencies should have a coordinated approach in national security scenario and achieve the target of making India a developed and safe nation.
While highlighting the policy issues on national security the Home Minister applauded the role of police as frontline warriors in crisis and disaster management.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi later joined the Conference virtually and reviewed the action points of the previous Conference.
During the conference, a review of internal security situation was presented to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister and discussions were held to improve the overall security scenario with more people-friendly initiatives.
A session on various initiatives of security forces on Left Wing Extremism (LWE) front was held in which discussions were held to improve security situation in LWE infested areas.
“Stress was given on coordinated action with States to check the LWE menace. Discussions on role of police during COVID-19 pandemic and implementation of safety protocol by the police was also discussed. Follow-up actions were also suggested to develop an Standard Operative Procedure (SOP) to manage various types of emergency situations”, a source in the security set up said.
At the beginning of the conference, the Home Minister paid homage to the Police martyrs and also awarded Indian Police Medal to 50 awardees and congratulated them on their achievements.
The DGPs and IGPs conference is an annual affair where senior police officials of the states and the Centre meet and discuss issues of importance.
About 250 officers in the rank of DGP and IGP from all states, Union Territories and Central Government are participating in a two day high profile virtual meeting.
Prior to 2014, this high profile annual event was centered in Delhi but From 2014 this conference has been organising it outside the national capital since it came to power in 2014.
The previous conferences were held in Guwahati, Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, Hyderabad, Tekanpur in Madhya Pradesh, Kevadia in Gujarat and Pune.
