YSRCP alleges scam in Polavaram contract

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) Demanding a high-level inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the Polavaram project contract, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Wednesday accused Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of using the programme as a milch product to breed kickbacks.
Party MP YV Subba Reddy told the media here, ''Close on the heels of Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari’s remarks that Polavaram should be built as a corruption-free project, Mr Naidu rushed to Nagpur last evening with a proposal to change the contractor which shows the real intentions of the state.''
The Union Minister’s remarks, Mr Reddy alleged, itself are clear that there were many irregularities in the project and the state wants to replace the present contractor, who is a Telegu Desam Party Member of Parliament. ''The intention is to take the matter to legal corridors as the project cannot be completed by 2018, the promised deadline. If the contractor is changed, the earlier company owned by the TDP MP would be blacklisted and there is every chance that he moves the court holding up the project indefinitely,'' Mr Reddy, the Ongole representative, alleged.
