The court also slapped a fine of Rs 3,000 on him, police said. According to the sources, the convict, Ninad Dilip Dherne, and the young girl became friends in 2011 through social media site. Later, the friendship turned into a love affair and Ninad promised to marry her. He began taking the girl to different places and raped her. When the girl demanded to marry him, Ninad refused andthreatened the girl of dire consequences. But, as the victim insisted on getting married with him, Ninad assaulted her and threw acid on her, but she managed to escape from the acid attack.
