Lucknow, May 20(UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday recommended sacking of backward welfare and divyang minister Om Prakash Rajbhar from the state cabinet with immediate effect.
Mr Adityanath sent his recommendation to Governor Ram Naik this, confirmed a government spokesperson.
The decision was taken after the seventh phase of polls ended on Sunday.
Mr Rajbhar, the president of the Suheldeo Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), who is an ally of the BJP in the state, had gone against the party in the elections and fielded 39 candidates, including one against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi.
With this, the BJP is set to snap ties with the SBSP in the state Assembly where it has four MLAs.
However, Mr Rajbhar claimed that he had resigned from the ministry on April 13 but his resignation was not accepted by the Chief Minister.
Besides the cabinet minister post, the government also sacked six SBSP leaders from public sector units.
Though welcoming the CM's decision, Mr Rajbhar hit back at the BJP government for declining the rights of the backwards in the state.
"I have been punished for fighting for the rights of the backwards," he told reporters after the government's decision. He also questioned the basis on which his demand for total prohibition was rejected by the government.
