Lucknow, Jan 25 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday defended his government's recent Anti- Conversion law, saying laws are not enacted for anyone's gain or loss but in response to the needs of maintaining social harmony, law and order and security in the society.
Talking to select mediapersons from Delhi in his residence here, the Chief Minister said that High Courts in Kerala and Karnataka had already made observations in this regard about a decade ago.
Responding to a query, he said that general public had responded favorably to the new law which aims to curb forcible conversion or by fraud, coercion, undue influence, allurement and mischievous means. It came into force in November last year and about 14 cases have been lodged under it since then.
